What is the rule?
In Queensland, drivers aged 75 and over must carry a current medical certificate for driving. The certificate confirms you meet the national fitness to drive standards.
What happens at the appointment?
Your GP asks about your health and medicines, checks your vision and examines you, then completes the certificate. Some conditions may need extra tests or a specialist report.
What to bring
- Your current medical certificate and licence
- Glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids
- A list of your medicines and health conditions
- Any letters from the Department of Transport and Main Roads
Plan ahead
Book a few weeks before your current certificate expires, in case further tests are needed.
Costs
Driver medicals attract a fee. Reception will confirm the cost when you book.
