How a mental health care plan works.

You are not alone

Many people see a GP for their mental health. It is a normal, confidential part of general practice, and there is no judgement.

  1. Tell reception you would like to talk about your mental health. You do not need to give details.

  2. Your GP asks about how you have been feeling, what is happening in your life and what you would like help with.

  3. Together you make a plan, which can include a referral to a psychologist, social worker or occupational therapist.

  4. Eligible people can access Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions each calendar year under Better Access, with a GP review along the way.
